Building on the thematic areas of the cooperation and facilitation under the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage, vulnerable developing countries would be able to request technical assistance for relevant approaches for averting, minimizing and addressing loss and damage.

Approaches to cooperation, facilitation and implementation of relevant approaches for averting, minimizing and addressing loss and damage can take into account:

  • Current impacts as well as short-, medium- and long-term risks of climate change
  • A range of hydrometeorological hazards, climate variabilities, extreme weather events, slow onset events
  • Diverse types of losses, including income losses, physical assets, non-economic losses
  • A range of comprehensive risk management approaches including assessing, reducing and retaining the risks, human mobility options, pooling for risk financing, measures for emergency preparedness, social protection, recovery and rehabilitation, transformation
