For more information, please refer to the sections below. Be sure to check out the FAQs, which provide more detailed information on the conditions that must be met, the transition process, process deadlines, and much more.

The standard and procedure are effective from 1 January 2024.

The interface for submitting transition requests became available on June 30, 2023, and project participants interested in transitioning were required to submit their requests by no later than December 31, 2023.

A dedicated transition portal was available for facilitating the submission of transition requests of eligible CDM project activities and programmes of activities to the Article 6.4 mechanism.

The transition portal was accessible only to focal points for scope (c) in order to ensure its proper use. This measure aimed to prevent any potential misuse, such as the submission of transition requests for CDM activities that are not eligible for transition.

Project participants who expressed their intent to transition submitted their transition request using the following form no later than 31 December 2023. Please note that creating a user account was a necessary first step in order to access the transition portal.

Background

On 30 June 2023, project participants and focal points for scope (c), as designated in the modalities of communication statement submitted by project participants, received an email containing additional information, including the link to the transition portal for submission of transition requests. The purpose of submitting a transition request is to indicate the intention to transition, with further steps to be followed in due course.

Submission Deadline: 31 December 2023

Project participants interested in expressing their intent to transition shall submit their transition request no later than 31 December 2023. Meeting this deadline is crucial, as failure to do so will result in exclusion from transition.

Email Assistance

Project participants that have not received the email with instructions and links to request transition, but believe that their project activities or programmes of activities are eligible should contact the secretariat at cdmregistration@unfccc.int.

  • For example, this could be relevant to project activities or programmes of activities whose crediting period or PoA period would have been active as of 1 January 2021, if the crediting under the CDM continued after 2020, among other criteria.
