The Article 6.4 Supervisory Body invited applications from:

(1)    Experts with special expertise in accreditation, to apply to serve as members of the A6.4-AP; that are

  • Experts with special expertise in accreditation from the African region;
  • Female experts, particularly from developing countries 

(2)    Experts with special expertise in methodologies, to apply to serve as members of the A6.4-MEP, that are

  • Experts in activities involving removals, including matters related to permanence and risk of reversals for emission reductions; and
  • Female experts, particularly from developing countries

Background

The Supervisory Body agreed to establish two panels to support its work drawing upon the roster of experts established at its fourth meeting:

(a)      The Methodological Expert Panel (A6.4-MEP), to support in creating methodological standards, guidelines, clarifications, and other methodological matters applicable to proposed and registered Article 6, paragraph 4, mechanism projects (A6.4 projects) and programmes of activities (A6.4 PoAs);

(b)      The Article 6.4 Accreditation Panel (A6.4-AP), to support in implementing standards and procedures for accrediting entities that conduct validations and verifications for A6.4 projects and PoAs.

The Supervisory Body further agreed to the terms of reference of the Article 6.4 mechanism expert panels and the procedure for selection and performance evaluation of members of the expert panel

The Supervisory Body emphasized reaching a wider audience, including underrepresented regions and women and identified expertise gaps and agreed to launch a call for experts to receive additional applications from the following groups to fill the above-mentioned gaps in expertise, underrepresented regions, and women.

The Supervisory Body now invites:

(1)      Experts with special expertise in accreditation, to apply to serve as members of the A6.4-AP, that are :

  • Experts with special expertise in accreditation from the African region;
  • Female experts, particularly from developing countries

(2)      Experts with special expertise in methodologies, to apply to serve as members of the A6.4-MEP, that are

  • Experts in activities involving removals, including matters related to permanence and risk of reversals for emission reductions; and
  • Female experts, particularly from developing countries

The calls for application are open from 23 November 2023 to 10 January 2024, 23:59 CET.

The Article 6.4 Supervisory Body invites applications from experts wishing to be considered as members of the A6.4-AP in accordance with the Terms of reference of the Article 6.4 mechanism expert panels (A6.4-SB008-A02) and the Selection and performance evaluation of members of the expert panels under the Supervisory Body (A6.4-SB008-A03), as adopted at SB 008.

This call specifically requests applications from:

  • Experts from the Africa region;
  • Female experts, in particular from developing countries.

The A6.4-AP performs the following key functions in support of the Supervisory Body:

  • Consider the results of assessments of designated operational entities (DOEs) regarding their compliance with accreditation requirements;
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Supervisory Body on accreditation requirements for operational entities;
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Supervisory Body on the improvement of the accreditation process.

The Article 6.4 Supervisory Body invites applications from experts wishing to be considered as members of the A6.4-MEP in accordance with the Terms of reference of the Article 6.4 mechanism expert panels (A6.4-SB008-A02) and the Selection and performance evaluation of members of the expert panels under the Supervisory Body (A6.4-SB008-A03), as adopted at SB 008.

This call specifically requests applications from:

  • Experts with special expertise in removal activities, including matters related to permanence and risk of reversals for emission reductions;
  • Female experts, in particular from developing countries.

The A6.4-MEP performs the following key functions of the Supervisory Body:

  • Consider draft recommendations regarding the establishment, revision or withdrawal of methodological standards, guidelines, and clarifications for A6.4 projects and A6.4 PoAs;
  • Consider draft recommendations for other methodological requirements for A6.4 projects and A6.4 PoAs;
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Supervisory Body regarding the need for and priority areas for methodological guidance.

Minimum requirements:

  • Familiarity with the Article 6.4 Rules, Modalities and Procedures (RMP) and relevant decisions of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA) and decisions related to the transition of activities from the CDM to the A6.4 Mechanism;
     
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and orally. A working knowledge of other United Nations languages is desirable;
     
  • Excellent drafting skills, strong operational and analytical skills, and an ability to work as a member of a team; 
     
  • Advanced university degree (Masters) in the relevant discipline. A combination of a university degree plus three years of additional relevant professional experience in the field may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree in the relevant discipline.


Remuneration:

Experts will be paid a daily fee and, if applicable, travel and daily subsistence allowance, in accordance with UN rules and regulations.

Experts wishing to be considered by the Supervisory Body are invited to apply. All applicants shall complete the application form, to ensure that:

*The P11 form should be completed and generated prior to finalizing the application form. Applicants can generate the P11 form via the UNFCCC HR portal.


Application process: 

The selection of experts will be decided by the Supervisory Body and announced in a meeting report of the Supervisory Body. According to its Rules of Procedure (See Annex II, section VIII. Expert Groups), the Supervisory Body may establish expert groups comprising internal or external experts, such as committees, panels, working groups and/or rosters of experts, as required, to assist it in performing its functions and achieving its objectives. The Supervisory Body may draw on the expertise necessary to perform its functions, including from the UNFCCC roster of experts. In this context, it shall take fully into account the consideration of regional and gender balance.
