Note by the co-facilitators

As part of the second periodic review (PR2), the second structured expert dialogue (PR2-SED2) is taking place in three meetings. This is the event page for the second meeting (PR2-SED2), which took place in conjunction with SBSTA 52-55 during the Glasgow Climate Change Conference. As is the case with previous SED meetings, PR2-SED2 aimed to ensure scientific integrity in the UNFCCC process by providing space for focused scientific and technical exchange of views, information and ideas in an open and transparent manner. The meeting adhered to any guidance provided for mandated COP 26 events

The first meeting of PR2-SED2 took place in two sessions: November 2020 and June 2021. The third meeting will take place in conjunction with SBSTA 56 in 2022.

In line with the periodic review modalities to consider information as it becomes available, PR2-SED2 was centred around the content of the WGI contribution to the IPCC’s AR6, the Fourth Biennial Assessment and Overview of Climate Finance Flows by the Standing Committee on Finance (SCF) and other recently published reports by international organizations. It also provided an opportunity to hold a dedicated session on reports coordinated by relevant regional and sub-regional agencies.

Part one of PR2-SED2 took place on 1 November 2021, from 15:00 to 18:00 (GMT) and was dedicated to global aspects with the WGI of AR6, and the UNEP Gap reports serving as inputs, as well as a presentation by the SCF on the Fourth Biennial Assessment and Overview of Climate Finance Flows.

Part two took place on 2 November 2021 and focused on scientific information on observed impacts of climate change with inputs from WMO Regional Climate Centres, and other reports/input coordinated by relevant regional and sub-regional agencies and  benefited from inputs from the IPCC, OECD and the Third World Network. Other regional experts and organizations were invited to join the discussions and/or participate in the poster sessions.

Two virtual poster sessions on relevant topics were held via the virtual platform to complement the discussions that will take place in plenary. The posters provided an opportunity to share additional information that could not be presented in the plenary presentations and panel discussions.

To help focus the inputs, the SED CFs prepared guiding questions that will guide the presentations, posters and discussions. The questions are contained in the information note for PR2-SED2.
