Learning to Lead on Carbon Tax in Africa
This year, the world awaits new and updated national climate action plans at the upcoming COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021. To accelerate mitigation and fund adaptation, some countries are exploring carbon taxes as climate solutions. The regional challenges African countries face when developing carbon taxes were in focus during a recent three-week online course.

The East African Development Bank (EADB) commitment to carbon neutrality
In 2018, EADB committed to carbon neutrality. The Bank aims to achieve this through a two-pronged approach. Firstly, having identified that 66% of EADB's carbon emissions originate from electricity consumption, the Bank will investigate ways to make their electricity consumption more efficient and climate friendly. Secondly, the Bank will offset its carbon emission through purchasing UN certified Carbon Emission Reductions (CERs). The Bank has tried to invest in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects from all of the Bank's Member States, where available, and plans to buy CERs from the Kenya Cook Stove Project, the DelAgua Health "Tubeho Neza" Programme in Rwanda and Bujagali Hydropower Project in Uganda. read the full article here>>
