Background
The Caribbean is among the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world, facing recurrent hurricanes, sea level rise, droughts, and changing rainfall patterns. Although the region’s Small Island Developing States (SIDS) contribute minimally to global greenhouse gas emissions, they experience severe socio-economic impacts from climate-related events.
To respond to these challenges, Caribbean countries are developing and implementing National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) to address medium- and long-term adaptation priorities. However, accessing climate finance remains a major hurdle. Despite the availability of international funding mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Adaptation Fund, and Global Environment Facility (GEF), countries in the region face persistent barriers, including limited institutional capacity, fragmented data systems, and complex access procedures.
Objectives
The webinar, organized by the Regional Collaboration Centre Caribbean, aims to provide a platform for Caribbean countries to share practical experiences in accessing and deploying adaptation finance, while engaging directly with regional and international financial institutions. Participants will gain insights into available opportunities, requirements, and emerging financing models, including blended finance, to help unlock new climate finance flows.
Expected Outcomes
Participants will:
-
Learn from country-led innovations and experiences in securing adaptation finance aligned with NAP priorities.
-
Engage in dialogue with financial institutions to explore financing mechanisms and opportunities for the Caribbean.
-
Identify gaps, opportunities, and concrete next steps to improve climate finance mobilization and accelerate implementation of adaptation plans and projects.
Target Public
The event targets government officials, adaptation specialists, financial experts, and organizations working on climate adaptation, including:
-
National Focal Points, Adaptation Contact Points, and other government stakeholders.
-
Officials from Ministries of Finance, Planning, and Environment in the Caribbean.
