Day Two of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit

 

Continuation of the First Part of the High-Level Segment for Heads of State and Government

The first part of the High-Level Segment of COP 29/CMP 19/CMA 6 will continue hearing national statements from Heads of State and Government in Plenary Hall Nizami today Wednesday, 13 November 2024, beginning at 10.00 hrs.

All speakers should ensure that they are in the Plenary Hall at least four speakers ahead of the delivery of their national statement. They will be escorted by an usher during the presentation of the previous speaker from the seat of their delegation to a reserved chair close to the podium.

Speaking slots for those who are not in the Plenary Hall at the time for delivery of their statements will be rescheduled to speak at the end of all statements of the same category.

The delivery of national statements can also be viewed on IPTV screens and webcast.

Please be advised that security and fire regulations do not permit participants to stand, and security will enforce this requirement.

Zero tolerance towards harassment

Please be reminded that all COP 29 participants are expected to follow the Code of Conduct.

The UN Climate Change secretariat and the COP 29 organizers will apply a zero-tolerance approach to any form of harassment, including sexual harassment, and will deal with such complaints promptly.

We encourage reporting of any incident either directly to any badged UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) officer or by calling the United Nations Security Control Centre, which is open 24 hours a day at +994 102 569 409. You may also report an incident to SpeakUp@unfccc.int at any time.

COP 29 Global Climate Action High-Level Event: United Leadership to Accelerate Action for a Climate-Resilient Future

COP 29 participants are invited to the mandated Global Climate Action High-Level Event on Wednesday, 13 November 2024 at 16.30 hrs. in Plenary Hall Caspian, convened by the COP 28 Presidency, COP 29 Presidency, the UNFCCC Executive Secretary, the High-Level Champions. The Global Climate Action High-Level Event aims to show how COP 29 presents a unique opportunity to help activate and amplify the innovative, hands-on leadership of non-State actors, showcasing that bold and decisive climate action from all actors in the real economy and all areas of society is essential in supporting design and implementation of NDCs and NAPs.

Parties, observers and other non-Party stakeholders who wish to take the floor in the event are kindly invited to send their requests to make an intervention of no longer than 3 minutes to globalclimateaction@unfccc.int by Wednesday, 13 November 2024 at 12.00 hrs., with the subject line: “GCA HLE Intervention.” While efforts will be made to accommodate all requests, given time limitations, priority will be given to requests from Parties.

Call for inputs: climate action announcements made at COP 29

The UNFCCC secretariat is tracking climate action announcements made at the twenty-ninth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29), including the launch of: 

  • Climate initiatives;
  • Pledges and declarations; 
  • Publications and reports;
  • Any other climate action announcements. 

This information will be used to inform the Global Climate Action Portal (GCAP), formally known as Non-State Actor Zone for Climate Action (NAZCA), particularly its COP 29 event page. Further information can be found here.

Invitation to attend COP 29-Led Events in the Green Zone

The COP 29 Green Zone Programming Team is pleased to invite all conference participants to join them in the Green Zone during COP 29 for a series of impactful events that address the most pressing climate and sustainability issues of our time. This thoughtfully curated agenda brings together world leaders, experts, and advocates to discuss pathways to a sustainable, resilient future.

Each day’s session will provide unique insights into critical areas of sustainability, from finance and energy to food systems and biodiversity. Together with the conference participants, they will explore actionable strategies to address climate challenges, foster global cooperation, and create a meaningful legacy for COP 29 in Azerbaijan.

Survey on the quality of conference services at COP 29

The UNFCCC secretariat, in collaboration with the Government of Azerbaijan as host country, is committed to providing high-quality conference services that fulfil the demands and requirements of UNFCCC sessions. To help determine the extent to which the secretariat is able to respond to participant needs and to further improve the quality of our conference services, we have launched a survey on operational aspects of COP 29.

Audio-visual recordings

Please note that making any kind of audio-visual recordings during open or closed official meetings is not permitted to conference participants.

Open plenary meetings and press briefings have public webcast (live and on-demand) which are available on the COP 29 schedule page.

 

Submission of credentials

Parties are reminded that the credentials of representatives of Parties, as well as the names of alternate representatives and advisers, shall be submitted to the secretariat no later than 24 hours after the opening of COP 29/CMP 19/CMA 6. Parties are reminded that in accordance with decisions 17/CP.9, 36/CMP.1 and 2/CMA.1, only one set of credentials is necessary to cover the participation of Parties in COP 29, CMP 19 and CMA 6. Duly signed original credentials, should be deposited during COP 29, CMP 19 and CMA 6 at the Information Counter located in the Service Hub Area C in the conference venue. To ensure proper handling and delivery to the repository, no other office or authority of the secretariat or the host country has been designated to receive credentials.

Welcome Pack for COP 29

All conference participants are invited to retrieve their “COP 29 water bottle" at the Distribution Counter in the Service Hub Area C. The Distribution Counter is open from Monday, 11 to Friday, 22 November 2024 from 08.00 hrs. to 18.00 hrs. (except Sunday, 17 November – when the conference premises are closed).

Election of officers of bodies under the Convention and the Protocol

Please consult the UNFCCC elections webpage for latest information on election procedures and daily updates of election nominations and election results.

 

Free wireless Internet

Please connect to network “PlugNPlay” to access the free wireless Internet on the conference premises. Please report any issues to the ICT customer support staff located at the computer centre or look for support staff who are easily identifiable by blue vests marked “ICT SUPPORT”.

The provisional list of registered participants is available on Monday, 11 November 2024. National focal points and designated contact persons should make corrections using the Online Registration System (ORS) by Wednesday, 20 November 2024, at the latest.

 

Medical and security emergencies

First aid services are available from 11 to 22 November 2024 with several First Aid rooms distributed throughout the Blue Zone as indicated on the venue map. First Aid room C1 (located in Area C, VOM 4) and First Aid room D3 (located in Area D, outside of the main entrance to Media Centre) are open 24/7 while the other First Aid rooms are open from 08.00 to 22.00 hrs.

Conceived as a one-stop shop, the UN Climate Change App offers the latest news about the Climate Change process, along with access to live webcasts of sessions and press conferences. Official documents and agendas, and schedule of meetings are also accessible with just a few clicks.

The App is available in the Google (Android) and iTunes (IOS) stores (smartphone or tablet) and is a great way to follow international climate action at any time and especially now during COP 29.
