Wednesday, 5 December, 3 p.m

Further to his consultations on potential ministerial engagement on key outstanding issues, and in view of the importance of finance items that cut across bodies, notably the COP and AWG-LCA, the COP/CMP President has asked H.E. Ms. Mariyam Shakeela (Maldives) and H.E. Mr. Bruno Oberle (Switzerland) to assist in the form of ministerial outreach on key finance issues.

These outreach efforts will not duplicate the consultations and negotiations continuing under the leadership of the Chair of the AWG-LCA and the finance co-chairs under the COP.

Update 4 December, 5 p.m.

Upon completion of the mandate given to them by the COM/CMP President following the closure of the Subsidiary Bodies on Saturday, 1 December, the SBI and SBSTA Chairs requested a final extension till noon on Wednesday, 5 December 2012, to advance the remaining items. They also indicated that some issues which are of a political nature may require ministerial engagement to take them forward. The President granted the requested extension and will review the need for ministerial engagement depending on the status of items at noon on Wednesday, 5 December 2012.

Update 3 December, 7 p.m.

The COP/CMP President has begun consultations with delegations on how ministers might be engaged this week on key outstanding issues that will require resolution to arrive at a balanced package for decision at the closure of the COP and CMP.

Mr. Bard Vegar SOLHJELL (Norway) to assist the Chair of the AWG-KP in the form of ministerial outreach with an initial focus on the following two issues: access to the mechanisms by Kyoto Protocol Parties who will not be taking commitments in the second commitment period, and extending the share of proceeds to other Kyoto Protocol mechanisms.

These outreach efforts will not duplicate the consultations and negotiations continuing under the leadership of the Chair of the AWG-KP.

The Chair of the AWG-KP, with the support of the President, intends to complete work under the AWG-KP by Wednesday, 5 December.

The COP/CMP President will provide more information on ministerial outreach on other issues in light of the status of negotiations. The next informal stock taking plenary is scheduled for Wednesday 5 December (time to be announced).
