Tasks:

Throughout my fellowship, I contributed to several key deliverables that significantly advanced the goals of the Regulations Development and Stakeholder Interaction Unit and the wider Mitigation Division. These deliverables include:

•           Contributed to the development of key documents critical to the transition of CDM projects to Article 6.4, direct communication with stakeholders, and the preparation of the Article 6.4 manual, among others.

•           Supported and co-led the Energy Track during the MENA Regional Climate Weeks, helping to organize and deliver various events organized within this track.

•           Contributed to the COP28 and COP29 negotiations and SB sessions on Article 6.4, providing technical supports towards successful outcomes.

•           Supported the organization and delivery of Article 6.4 Supervisory Body and CDM Executive Board meetings, from the SBM04 session to the SBM014 sessions, and EB117 to EB123, respectively.

•           Delivered various presentations on stakeholder relations matters, contributing to both Article 6.4 Supervisory Body and CDM Executive Board meetings. These presentations helped clarify key issues related to stakeholder engagement and improved understanding among the constituted bodies members and also broader stakeholders.

•           Effectively processed numerous letters addressed to the Supervisory Body and the CDM EB, ensuring that all communication was handled efficiently, addressing stakeholder concerns and fostering strong communication channels between the bodies and stakeholders.

•           In close collaboration with colleagues from various teams and divisions, I ensured that all inquiries addressed to the Supervisory Body, CDM Executive Board, and Secretariat were processed in accordance with the relevant procedures, maintaining high standards of responsiveness and compliance.

•           Under the supervision of the manager, I handled the day-to-day operations and contributed to the development of the Stakeholder Interaction Unit’s work plan and reporting.

Conclusion

As I reflect on my time here, I am more convinced than ever that the fellowship program is essential in building the capacity of LDCs and SIDS, in tackling the impacts of climate change at the national level and beyond. Strengthening and expanding the fellowship will provide immense support to these Parties, empowering them to build the necessary skills and knowledge to engage more effectively in climate actions and negotiations. By investing in the next generation of leaders from these regions, the fellowship has huge potential to make a transformative impact, ensuring that these countries are equipped to participate meaningfully in international climate negotiations, build adaptative and resilience capacities, as well as contribute to sustainable development.

I am particularly indebted to my immediate supervisors, who went above and beyond to mentor and support me throughout my fellowship. Despite a busy schedule, they took the time to coach and guide me, providing crucial feedback that helped me navigate the challenges and responsibilities of my role. Their thoughtful approach to leadership and dedication to my development has had a lasting impact on my professional and personal growth, and I am grateful for their continuous encouragement and patience.
