ACE Activity Series 2026

Background

In 2026, the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) is conducting the midterm review of the Glasgow work programme on Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), which presents a critical moment to revitalize the ACE agenda and accelerate its implementation at all levels.

Recognizing the opportunity and the significant workload ahead, Parties and other stakeholders can benefit from additional informal opportunities to deliberate on progress in ACE implementation and the way forward.

Objectives

In 2021, the secretariat, under the guidance of the SBI Chair, conducted informal consultations, expert group meetings and workshops under the title “ACE Activity Series”. The 2021 Activity Series provided a crucial space for building common understanding for the final review of the Doha work programme on Article 6 of the Convention.

Ahead of the midterm review of the Glasgow work programme, the secretariat will once again organize the ACE Activity Series under the guidance of the SBI Chair, with various mandated and additional activities to:

  • Generate momentum towards the midterm review and galvanize global support for the ACE agenda;
  • Initiate the discussion around the effectiveness of the work programme and any emerging gaps and needs, and ways to improve the Glasgow work programme;

The discussions at these activities will be informal in nature and will not prejudge the consideration of relevant matters at SB 64, including at the ACE Dialogue and the technical workshop, nor the outcome of the midterm review.

The ACE Activity Series 2026 will be composed of the following activities:

Webinars

Four public webinars will focus on five of the six ACE elements, with international cooperation being a cross-cutting consideration. Each session will provide an overview of progress made and good practices, and will allow Parties to share experiences and discuss ways to accelerate ACE implementation.

Recordings and written summaries will be made available after each session.

ACE events at UNFCCC Climate Week 2026

At Climate Week-3 in Yeosu, Republic of Korea, the secretariat will organize the event "From Local Action to Global Impact: How Subnational and Local Governments Drive Just and Inclusive Climate Ambition and Implementation through Action for Climate Empowerment" on 23 April 2026, 10:00–12:30 (KST, GMT+9)

Subnational and local governments play a critical role in translating global climate goals into tangible action on the ground. Bringing together policymakers, practitioners, and partners across levels of governance, this open event will explore how cities and regions can advance climate ambition and implementation by integrating the six Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) elements – climate change education, public awareness, training, public participation, public access to information and international cooperation – in their efforts to deliver just and inclusive transitions.

More information is available on the event page.
