Background

Under the Paris Agreement, Parties are required to prepare and maintain successive NDCs reflecting their national ambition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen resilience. With the third round of NDCs (NDC 3.0) due in 2025, Cameroon is working to align its commitments with the outcomes of the First Global Stocktake (GST1) and the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 °C.

Cameroon faces pressing climate challenges, from coastal erosion and drought to deforestation and erratic rainfall patterns affecting agriculture and livelihoods. Building on the progress achieved with support from the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) through UNDP, Cameroon has developed an advanced draft of its NDC 3.0 and requested the support of RCC WACA to facilitate its national validation and stakeholder endorsement.

Objectives

Organized by the Government of Cameroon in partnership with the UN Climate Change – Regional Collaboration Centre for West and Central Africa (RCC WACA), this workshop marks a decisive step in finalizing the country’s enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) ahead of its submission to COP 30.

The five-day workshop aims to:

  • Review and validate the draft NDC 3.0 in line with GST1 outcomes, Paris Agreement principles, and national development priorities.
  • Facilitate multi-stakeholder consultations to ensure national ownership and cross-sectoral coherence.
  • Strengthen institutional capacity for implementation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Clarify the UNFCCC submission process and next steps for Cameroon’s NDC 3.0.

Expected Outcomes

  • Validated NDC 3.0 document reflecting consensus across ministries, civil society, and the private sector.
  • Strengthened institutional coordination for NDC implementation and monitoring.
  • Enhanced awareness and political commitment to national climate goals.
  • Clear roadmap for submission to the UNFCCC and future technical support needs.

Target Audience

  • Officials from MINEPDED and MINEPAT.
  • Representatives from key ministries (Energy, Agriculture, Forestry, Transport, Industry).
  • Experts from academia, civil society, and the private sector.
  • Development partners, including UNDP, CAFI, and other international organizations.
