Participants are responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements and are free to book accommodation of their own choice.

A list of hotels provided by the Government of Ethiopia can be found here. Most of these hotels are located within 1 to 21 km distance from the Addis International Convention Center. 

The venue offers a full range of amenities, including catering services, banking facilities, and clinics. There are also ATM in the center as well as in walking distance from the center.

For funded delegates that registered before the deadline, Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) will be provided on site, based on UN DSA rates for the expected duration of their stay in Addis Ababa, plus Terminal Expenses.

Upon arrival at the meeting venue, delegates are required to present their boarding passes and passport to Ms. Mary Jean Abrazado and Mr. Ryan Garbin for travel validation and calculation of DSA entitlement from the UNFCCC Travel/Finance office. A voucher (sample below) will be issued after verification, which will be presented to the cashier for DSA collection.

Please ensure your passport and boarding pass are available for verification at both the registration and collection points. Delegates are strongly encouraged to collect their DSA on the first day of their scheduled event. 

Climate and weather: 

In September Addis Ababa experiences mild temperatures with average highs around 21°C (70°F) and lows around 11°C (52°F). While it's still within the rainy season, the rain tends to be less frequent and intense compared to July and August. September is often considered a pleasant month to visit, with green landscapes and blooming wildflowers. 

Currency: 

The official currency in Addis Ababa is the Ethiopian Birr. 
Foreign currency, in particular US dollars, pounds sterling, and euros, can be changed into birr at private ‘forex bureaux’, as well as at most banks during banking hours (usually 8.30 am to 4 pm Monday–Saturday).  Local currency can be drawn from a countrywide network of 24-hour ATMs with international Visa and MasterCards. 

Credit & debit cards: 

In Addis Ababa debit and credit cards are not widely accepted outside of a few specific places like luxury hotels and high-end supermarkets. While some ATMs accept Visa and Mastercard debit cards, and certain businesses like Ethiopian Airlines accept various branded credit and debit cards, it's not a common or reliable method of payment for everyday transactions. Cash is still king in Addis Ababa and the rest of Ethiopia.

Electricity: 

Electricity is 220 volts at 50 cycles. Plug standards vary but the Type C (European two-pin) and Type L (Italian three-pin) sockets are most common.

Telephone:

The international dialing code is +251.
Mobile phones are now more popular than landlines. The only provider is Ethio Telecom, which sells cheap local SIM cards at its stores in Addis Ababa and elsewhere. All phone numbers are now 10 numerals long, and mobile numbers can easily be recognized because they all start with ‘09’.

Participants are strongly advised to obtain comprehensive international medical insurance for the duration of their stay. The United Nations and the UNFCCC secretariat disclaim all responsibility for medical, accident and travel insurance, for compensation for death or disability, for loss of or damage to personal property and for any other costs or losses that may be incurred during travel or the period of participation in the Climate Week.  

In the interests of the security and safety of all participants and the smooth running of the UNFCCC meetings, the UNFCCC secretariat reserves the right to deny and/or restrict access to the venue, or to request participants to leave the venue. The UNFCCC secretariat shall not be responsible for any expenses incurred by participants who are requested to leave the venue or refused access to the meetings for which they have been nominated and/or registered as participants. 

The Government of Ethiopia will require proof of yellow fever vaccination from travelers coming from the following countries. Additionally, mpox screening will be required for passengers traveling from West Africa to Ethiopia.

All mandated events will be organized in accordance with their respective mandates under the Conference of Parties serving as the meeting of Parties to the Paris Agreement and of the Subsidiary Bodies.

Nomination

Once participants have been nominated for an event, they will receive an email with a link to complete their registration details via Indico UN. Logistical details related to travel and participation will be shared directly with registered participants.

In view of the need to confirm the arrangements for the Climate Week events as early as possible, the secretariat may not be in a position to process nominations of participants requiring funding support received after the deadline of 30 July 2025, CEST 23:59.

Collecting conference badges

Upon arrival at the venue for the first time, participants are requested to proceed to the registration desk to collect their meeting badge. The Badge Collection Centre is located at Gate 8 of the AICC premises.

Implementation Forum

The Implementation Forum will take place on 3 and 4 September 2025 and will feature a series of events. Over the course of the two days, the Forum will include, among others, the Climate Week Opening Ceremony; a number of events hosted by the COP 30 Presidency, including a mandated dialogue on advancing the role of local communities in the UNFCCC Process, events by the Presidency Youth Climate Champion, and dedicated sessions on climate finance. As in Climate Week 1 2025, a dedicated space will be created for the Implementation Labs, which will focus on thematic issues, such as forests, agriculture, sustainable cities, energy transition and access, and carbon markets. All participants registered for events taking place during Climate Week 2 will be able to join the two-day Implementation Forum. Registration for the forum will also be open to any interested stakeholders, subject to venue capacity. Please note that only those who are not already registered for mandated events will need to register separately for the Implementation Forum. Kindly note, participation in the Implementation Forum will not be separately or additionally funded.

The secretariat, working together with other UN agencies and partners, will organize - by invitation only – two capacity-building events on nationally determined contributions (NDCs).

- Anglophone NDC Clinic on 1 and 2 September 2025.

The best way to get around Addis Ababa is by taxi. You will see various yellow taxis, especially around hotels. Please make sure to negotiate and be prepared to pay in cash in the local currency as not all taxis are metered.

The Government of Ethiopia has established the visa facilitation measures listed below for registered participants attending the second Climate Week (CW2).

1. Visa Facilitation by the Government of Ethiopia

In line with standard practice, the visa for Ethiopia for CW2 participants is free of charge.

The Government of Ethiopia, as the Host of Climate Week 2, has waived the USD 52 visa fee for registered participants to the Climate Week. 

Additionally, please note that registered participants who have already paid the USD 52 visa fee, the Government of Ethiopia will reimburse them during the Climate Week event period, upon presentation of proof of payment. Reimbursements will be processed at a dedicated space in the CW2 venue. 

2. Visa Facilitation Modalities for Registered Participants

To ensure smooth entry into Ethiopia, the following visa facilitation options are available to registered participants:

• e-Visa: Participants with regular and ordinary passport holders should apply for a visa online, through the official Ethiopian e-Visa portal. The visa support letter will be provided in the UNFCCC registration confirmation email. For further details please refer to section 5.
• Visa on Arrival: Registered participants holding diplomatic, official, or service passports, as well as those with a UN Laissez-Passer (UNLP), are eligible for a free visa on arrival in Ethiopia. They are not required to complete the e-visa application form. After registration is confirmed, the Government of Ethiopia will send a visa-on-arrival support letter by email to facilitate airline boarding. Therefore, it is imperative that a correct email address be provided during registration.

3. Countries Requiring a Visa

All regular/ordinary passport holders require a visa to enter Ethiopia except for participants holding passports from Kenya and Djibouti.

4. Estimated Visa Processing Time

• e-Visa: Processed within three (3) business days after submission of a complete application.
• Visa on Arrival: Issued immediately upon arrival at the port of entry.

5. e-Visa Requirements:

• Online Application Portal: Participants with regular passport must apply via the official Ethiopian e-Visa portal.
• Visa Type: Select Workshop/Conference Visa under the appropriate sub-category.
• Company Reference Code: Enter MI144793691488.

      Supporting Documents:

• Under Application Letter, upload the visa support letter issued by the host country. A link to download the visa support letter will be provided in the UNFCCC registration confirmation email.
• Under Invitation Letter, upload the UNFCCC Registration Acknowledgement Letter.

• Photo Specifications: A recent passport-sized photo (3x4 cm), white background, in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format, with a file size less than 120 KB.
• Passport Validity: A minimum of six (6) months validity from the date of entry into Ethiopia is required.

Participants are strongly encouraged to initiate their visa application process well in advance and follow the above guidelines carefully to ensure timely approval and entry into Ethiopia for the Climate Week.
