Pre-2020 Action Fair

通知

The world is currently witnessing unprecedented action on climate change. There are now more than 500 climate change or climate change-related laws at the national level, cities are taking ambitious action to cut emissions and to adapt and the private sector has begun acting.

The Secretary-General’s recently held Summit on Climate Change was further testimony to this growing momentum. Leaders from government, business, finance and civil society advanced climate action through announcements on five fronts: cutting emissions; mobilizing money and markets; pricing carbon; strengthening resilience; and mobilizing new coalitions.

The work on pre-2020 ambition under the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) clearly forms part of this growing global momentum on climate change action.

Throughout 2014, technical expert meetings have been held to examine effective emission reduction policies, barriers to their implementation and the scaling-up, incentives and feasible options for support. Please click here to view a paper prepared by the secretariat which provides an in-depth compilation of information on the mitigation benefits of actions, initiatives and options to enhance mitigation ambition.

As part of the efforts by Parties through the ADP to accelerate pre-2020 climate action, the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at the request of the co-Chair’s of the ADP, is organizing a “fair” or Forum to highlight the implementation and support of 'pre-2020 ambition'. The fair aims to showcase that action is being scaled up and that many countries and non-state actors are taking action and setting an example.

The themes of the fair follow the themes of the technical expert meetings held throughout 2014 and are: renewable energy, energy efficiency, land-use, the urban environment, non-CO2 gases and carbon capture, use and storage.

The fair will run on 5, 8 and 9 December 2014 in the side events area at the conference. Additionally, an exhibition with the same focus will run for the duration of the conference.
