Events and Activities

This year’s UN Climate Change Conference (COP22) took place in Marrakech, Morocco. During the meeting, Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) - which is the interactive agenda for the implementation of Article 6 of the Convention and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement - was present with a variety of events and activities related to climate change education, training, public access to information, public awareness, public participation and international cooperation. Youth engagement in climate change was also recognized. The events and activities showcased good practices, lessons learned and climate action. Young and Future Generations Day, 10 November 2016, Marrakech

Young and Future Generations Day set on 10 November provided an opportunity to present youth climate action around the world and give young people a platform to engage with decision makers, stakeholders and others active in combating climate change. During that day, the ACE team organized various side events, including the Intergenerational Inquiry, mini side events and interviews with the young participants at the Climate Change Studio. Education Day, 14 November 2016, Marrakech

On 14 November, Climate Change Education (CCE) had a particular focus at COP22. A number of events and activities covering CCE issues took place, including the High-Level Event: Education - A Key Driver to Scale-Up Climate Action. This event brought together environment and education ministers and international organizations to discuss how education can enhance the implementation of the climate agenda and the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions. Good practices were showcased and future actions was highlighted with special attention to South-South and North-South cooperation as well as Africa’s specific priorities. Other Activities for Youth at COP 22

The UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech provides a platform for a huge variety of different side events and activities. ACE organizing High-Level Youth Briefings and set up the UN Youth Booth where daily mini side event showcasing youth action.
