Profile Summary

WFP works to enhance nutrition in women and children, support smallholder farmers in improving productivity and reducing losses, help countries and communities prepare for and cope with climate-related shocks, and boost human capital through school feeding programmes. To help governments and communities strengthen their resilience and better manage climate shocks, the WFP supports large-scale resilience-building initiatives that address the challenge.

Work relevant to the provision of technical assistance
  • Technical assistance that supports design and implementation of projects on Loss and Damage, e.g. livelihood programs, social protection mechanisms
  • Financial instruments (such as insurance, contingency funds etc)

WFP works alongside governments to strengthen social protection systems.

  • In the Aftermath of hurricane Maria, WFP mobilized cash-based transfers vis-à-vis existing public assistance programs. Its overall objective was to create a structure that ensured a timely and efficient response.
  • In Dominica, WFP designed a COVID-19 response program to assess the livelihood impact among fisherfolk and crafts.
  • WFP’s work also focuses on policy and delivery mechanism of financing, which includes its work with CCRIF to develop an insurance product entitled Social Protection Targeting Delivery Mechanism that provides premium support and adequate financing to be distributed to affected people in the aftermath of a disaster.
