What is the PCCB Network, and who is it for?

The Paris Committee on Capacity-Building (PCCB), established under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, has a mandate to foster collaboration among climate-related capacity-building stakeholders at all levels, and to strengthen networks and partnerships, boost synergies and promote the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

The new voluntary PCCB Network is a critical vehicle for boosting the reach and impact of the capacity-building efforts under the Paris Agreement, in 2020 and beyond.

The PCCB Network is open to all public and private entities and initiatives at the local, national, regional and international levels who believe in the power of collective action!

If you are a member of an entity or initiative involved in climate-related capacity-building, this voluntary Network is an ideal platform to join other actors across sectors and regions, exchange knowledge and experiences, and boost the impact of your climate actions.

This specifically includes:

    • Coherence and coordination on capacity-building under and outside the Convention
    • Identifying capacity gaps and needs in climate change related capacity-building
    • Awareness-raising, communications and stakeholder engagement on climate change-related capacity-building
    • Cross-cutting issues in climate change-related capacity-building, such as gender responsiveness, human rights, and indigenous peoples’ knowledge.

Why join the PCCB Network?

  • By becoming a member of the PCCB Network, you will receive regular updates on current and upcoming capacity-building events and activities undertaken by Network members.
  • You will benefit by gaining access to expert advice with the PCCB and other Network members.
  • You will be able to share your achievements with the network and benefit from the provision of information from other practitioners.
  • Members will be provided with an exclusive space for networking at the UN Climate Change Conferences in Bonn and UNFCCC COPs.

There are many inspiring capacity-building examples, such as:

Climate-related capacity-building efforts span individual, institutional and systemic levels and are at the heart of higher climate ambition and greater action!

By joining the network, you will be able to be in touch and take inspiration from initiatives like these and many more.  Of course, you will be able to showcase your initiatives as well and increase their reach through the PCCB Network. By doing so, your work will be featured in the PCCB’s communication and social media work.

Outlook and impact of the PCCB Network

  • After a pilot phase of one year, the PCCB Network experience will be evaluated in view of further improving it.
  • Given the urgency of the climate agenda, actors involved in addressing all aspects of climate change need to pick up the pace to delivering results that make a lasting and decisive difference.
  • By mobilizing the PCCB Network, the PCCB strives to help stepping-up and scaling-up capacity-building initiatives for enhanced climate ambition. The PCCB Network will be a leveraging platform where climate actors connect, share information, exchange ideas, inspire and get inspired, coordinate efforts, combine resources, and join forces for greater actions.
