Resource

Future Earth is a new 10-year global research platform providing the knowledge and support to accelerate our transformation to a sustainable world. It will bring together three global environmental change programmes: the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP) and DIVERSITAS. It will engage closely with the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and attract new research and stakeholder communities.

Future Earth seeks to pioneer new approaches to international research bringing together many disciplines around a common research agenda. It will also provide an international platform for engagement to ensure that knowledge is generated in partnership with society and users of science.

The project was implemented through the collaboration of the government of Québec, the City of Montreal, Montreal International and all Montreal universities. The Quebec government's contribution will amount to $3 million over five years including $2.5 million from the Quebec Research Fund and $500K from the Ministry of International Relations and la Francophonie through its contribution to the international development fund of Montreal. The global research Secretariat of Future Earth will be based in Montréal, Québec and will be headed by Dr. Paul Shrivastava.
