Climate Champions to Present 2019 – 2020 work plan for the Marrakech Partnership in Bonn

UN Climate Change News, 21 June 2019 - Mobilizing stronger and more ambitious climate action is urgently required to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

To connect the work of governments with the many voluntary and collaborative actions taken by cities, regions, businesses and investors, two High-Level Climate Champions have been appointed.

The present champions are Tomasz Chruszczow, Special Envoy for Climate Change from the Ministry of Environment in Poland, and Gonzalo Muñoz, a business entrepreneur and social change-maker at the forefront of environmental innovation in Chile.

On 21 June between 14:00 and 15:30 CET, during the Bonn UN Climate Change Conference SB50, the champions will present the 2019 – 2020 work plan for the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action.

The Marrakech Partnership supports implementation of the Paris Agreement by enabling collaboration between governments and the cities, regions, businesses and investors on climate change.

In a moderated conversation, together with Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change, the High-Level Champions will expand on their vision for ramping up global climate action towards a 1.5°C climate-neutral, resilient world.

The Deputy to the Special Envoy for the 23 September Climate Summit in New York City (convened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres) will also provide information on how this work contributes to the upcoming Summit.

To encourage an open exchange, conference participants, including Parties, non-Party stakeholders and the media, will be invited to ask questions during the event.

A live webcast of the event will be available here.
