At COP 29, Parties agreed (Decision 7/CP.29) to extend the enhanced Lima Work Programme on Gender for a further ten years, reaffirming its critical role in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women within the UNFCCC process. They also decided that the development of a new Gender Action Plan will commence at the sixty-second session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation in June 2025, with the aim of recommending a draft decision for consideration and adoption at COP 30 in November 2025.

Parties also agreed to request the Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation, with the support of the secretariat, to organize a technical workshop, to be held at SB 62, to facilitate the design of gender action plan activities, with a view to informing the development of the new gender action plan.
