Background: Article 6 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) calls on Parties to develop and implement educational, training and public awareness programmes on climate change and its effects, as well as public access to information on, and public participation in, the development of responses to climate change.
Objectives: The workshop provided a forum for national focal points for Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) and/or relevant government representatives to share their experiences and exchange ideas, good practices and lessons learned in implementing the Doha work programme on Article 6 of the Convention. The workshop strengthened the existing skills and capacities of national focal points.
Methodology: The workshop included presentations on good practices and lessons learned, followed by working group discussions.
Participants: The workshop was organized for ACE national focal points and other negotiators engaged in Article 6-related issues. Experts from the UN Alliance on Education, Training and Public Awareness and civil society delegates from the UNFCCC constituencies participated in the workshop.
Acknowledgment: Funding for the workshop was generously provided by the Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM).
Outcomes: A summary report on the workshop will be made available to SBI 45.
