Background and objectives

MCFs have jointly committed to enhancing complementarity and coherence in climate finance delivery. A key component of the MCF's action plan is capacity building, which is recognized as essential to:

  • Increase understanding of developing countries' opportunities to access climate finance and strengthen gender-responsive programs
  • Foster inclusive and effective climate programming
  • Align gender and climate priorities with funding modalities and national strategies

By engaging in this work, the MCF aims to contribute to efforts to strengthen NGCCFP’s skills and capacities and pave the way for strategic pathways into gender-responsive national climate planning, and to better understand the gender equality, women’s empowerment and inclusion aspects of the climate finance mechanisms.

Holding a joint capacity-building session on gender mainstreaming led by the gender leads of the AF, CIF and GCF together with the NDC Partnership directly supports existing commitments and the coherence agenda the UNFCCC and the MCFs. The session creates a space for targeted learning, peer exchange and strategic planning, reinforcing the shared goal of inclusive, country-driven climate governance.

  1. Introduction to the UNFCCC enhanced Lima work programme on gender and to discussions relating to the new gender action plan
  2. Multilateral Climate Funds and the social inclusion and gender components and the NGCCFP
  3. The role of NGCCFP and Climate Funds in  integrating gender and social inclusion into national climate plans and actions
  4. Reflections on the next steps for further collaborations and engagements
