Earth Information Day (EID) provides a platform for dialogue, enabling the exchange of information on the state of the global climate system and advancements in systematic observation (FCCC/SBSTA/2019/2 para. 58).

EID 2025 will feature an opening segment, a plenary session providing updates related to the global climate system and sustaining long-term  observations and from Earth observation initiatives, followed by two thematic breakout discussions. The topics for the breakout discussions include (a) Observations for supporting climate action and the ocean and cryosphere, and (b) Earth observations, data access and sharing and related innovations and technologies.

More information on the topics, including guiding questions, can be found in the event’s Information Note. This year's Draft Agenda can also be found here

Opening segment

  • Adonia Ayebare, Chair of the SBSTA

  • Simon Stiell, UNFCCC Executive Secretary

  • Celeste Saulo, WMO Secretary General

  • Jim Skea, Chair of the IPCC

  • Thelma Krug, Chair of GCOS

Plenary: updates on the state of the climate, sustaining Earth observations and related initiatives

  • WMO State of the Global Climate Update - Albert Fischer (WMO)

  • Advances in sustaining systematic systematic observations and scalable related innovations - Florence Rabier (ECMWF- CEOS/CGMS and GEO) and Markus Repnik (SOFF)

  • Integrated observation systems and innovations for supporting prediction of events and EW4ALL - Brazil’s Country experience - Paulo Nobre (National Institute for Space Research, INPE/Brazil)

  • Occurrence and monitoring of extreme events and related attribution- Julie Arrighi (World Weather Attribution)

  • Observation from indicators on global climate change - Piers Forster(Indicators of Global Climate Change Initiative, IGCC)
