Background

In order to achieve NDC along with  long-term strategies toward creating a decarbonized society in Southeast Asia, it is essential to cooperate with government, the private sector and communities.

For the private sector, strategy approach for climate action such as net zero emission pathway and GHG emission disclosure or business operation with environmental, social and governance are taking place  as a business imperative. In this context, embarking on sustainability reporting for the listed companies under country’s stock exchange creates additional impetus to corporate effort and actions.

This capacity building seminar aimed to deliver the knowledge sharing or views through on-going success stories in Vietnam and Thailand on capacity strengthening of the private sector in partnership toward further leverage corporate efforts in Southeast Asia.

Key Outcomes

  • This session presented capacity-building efforts for developing countries. Speakers emphasised that effective stakeholder engagement in NDC implementation can be achieved through planning and implementation support for governments in means of facilitating existing capacities of private sector stakeholders to scale up mitigation ambitions.
  • Considering and using available assistance and toolkits to identify gaps and needs is fundamental in every part of the capacity-building assessment. Likewise, raising awareness for green finance and mobilizing investments for GHG emissions reduction across sectors will be needed to scale up efforts for NDC implementation.
  • Finally, the session highlighted how women’s participation and activities are key to decarbonizing and achieving GHG emission reduction goals and NDC implementation efforts. Mixed gender discussions have been proven as beneficial for decision making and been more risk adverse.
