Background & Introduction:
To promote policy coherence and international cooperation, the Glasgow work programme on ACE (GWP) invites the Presidencies, with the support of the secretariat, to convene an in-session event, at each session of the COP and CMA, focused on a thematic area relevant to the Convention and the Paris Agreement. Given the prominence of just transition to ensure a fair, sustainable, and equitable shift towards low-emission economies, and given the establishment of a work programme on just transitions at COP27, this year’s event will be convened under the theme “Empowering a Fair, Inclusive and Just Transition.”
This event aims to raise awareness on how the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) toolbox plays an important role in providing enabling conditions, through education and public awareness, training and public access to information and participation, and international cooperation on these matters, in line with the objectives of the Convention and efforts to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. The ACE toolbox can be incorporated into the design and implementation of strategies for just transition to ensure inclusive, fair, and equitable outcomes for all. The event also allows for sharing best practices on country-driven strategies incorporating ACE in just transition and related initiatives including building climate resilience, enhancing adaptation, and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
