Sixth meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts

Summary of outcome

The sixth meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) took place virtually on 2 and 3 September 2021, from 14:00 to 17:00 (CEST) on both days. Eighteen (18) CGE members and one (1) observer attended the meeting.

The main objectives of the meeting were to review the progress of implementation of its 2021 workplan and consider the submission of the progress report to the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI).

Key summary of the outcomes of the meeting includes the following:

  • The CGE welcomed three new members, Mr. Ali Shareef (Maldives), Mr. Sin Cheah Liang (Singapore) and Ms. Toby Hedger (US).
  • The CGE considered the 2021 progress report to the SBI, including a report on the regional virtual training workshops on institutional arrangements for the existing MRV arrangements and the enhanced transparency framework, including data management for national GHG inventories, and an updated technical report on problems, constraints, lessons learned, and survey results on capacity-building needs of developing country Parties.
  • In addition, the group agreed to continue enhancing its communication and outreach activities and took note of the collaboration efforts with other expert groups and constituted bodies under the Convention and the Paris Agreement, and other intergovernmental and international organizations.
  • The CGE finalized its input to the Global Stocktake.
  • As per its 2021 workplan, the CGE agreed to organize a side-event at COP26 and its informal forum in December and requested the secretariat to make the arrangements.
  • Finally, the CGE tentatively agreed to organize its 7th meeting from 16 to 17 February 2022. The secretariat was requested to make the arrangements for both in-person and virtual participation.
