Gender composition and progress on implementation. Report by the secretariat
Agenda item

COP 27

14. Gender and climate change
Abstract

This report is prepared annually by the secretariat to assist Parties in tracking their progress towards meeting the goal of gender balance in advancing gender-sensitive climate policy. It presents a breakdown of the gender composition of constituted bodies established under the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, and of the gender and age composition of Party delegations to sessions held under these instruments, including comparison with data for previous years. In addition, information is provided on the secretariat’s implementation of decisions that include a gender approach. This year’s report also includes two case studies: an analysis of speaking times during plenaries and meetings at the twenty-sixth session of the Conference of the Parties and a review of activities carried out by Mexico to increase the representation of women in leadership positions within the UNFCCC process and in the delegation itself.
