Abstract

The Subsidiary Body for Implementation, at its twentieth session, agreed to continue its discussion on the organization of future sessional periods with a view to ensuring that the Convention bodies can work as efficiently and effectively as possible within the time available at a session, while ensuring a coherent and responsive approach to issues. This technical paper reviews the past organizational experience in the Convention process and identifies questions for discussion and possible options for improvement. The options presented are not intended as formal proposals, but as suggestions to facilitate further discussion. The paper also considers relevant experience from other multilateral processes to assess alternative approaches
