Background

The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) organizes side events during the SBs and the COP to discuss the experiences and progress made by the least developed countries (LDCs) in addressing adaptation, and the support provided by the group to the LDCs on adaptation. The side events also provide a platform for relevant partners and organizations to provide highlights on support to the LDCs.
LDCs continue to face significant challenges in implementing their NAPs, including limited technical capacity, institutional constraints, and barriers to accessing and deploying adaptation finance. In response, the LEG has developed a range of tools, guidance, and capacity-building initiatives to support countries in advancing adaptation planning and implementation.

Objectives

The event aims to:

1. Highlight the support needs and priorities of the LDCs for advancing the implementation of NAPs.
2. Present key LEG products and initiatives that support NAP implementation.
3. Provide information on the support available from partners, funds, and organizations to advance NAP implementation in the LDCs.
4. Strengthen collaboration and coordination among the LEG, partners, funds, and organizations to enhance support for adaptation planning and implementation in the LDCs.

Event description

This side event will showcase key products, tools and initiatives developed by the LDC Expert Group (LEG) to support the implementation of national adaptation plans (NAPs) in LDCs. The event will also provide a platform to highlight how the LEG convenes and collaborates with a broad range of partners, funds, organizations and other stakeholders to support LDCs, and to share information on available support and opportunities for advancing NAP implementation.
