Enhancing Capacities for NDC Preparation and Implementation: Knowledge Sharing Workshop

Objectives:

  1. Identify current activities of for enhancing the capacity of developing countries to prepare and implement nationally determined contributions
  2.  Facilitate the sharing of knowledge and good practices on building capacities for the preparation and implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions.

Session 1 – Keynote presentation

  • Overview of institutional and individual gaps and needs for preparing NDCs

Session 2 – Knowledge and good practice sharing: Capacity-building for NDCs

  • In this session, participants will share from their experience good practice on developing and retaining the capacities needed in the development and implementation of NDCs.
     
  • This session will have 4 rapid-fire stations organized around guiding questions.  Each station will start with an ice-breaker experience shared by a Party and will be moderated/facilitated by relevant development organizations.
         
  • The 4 thematic rapid-fire stations will be:
    • Approaches to identify and address capacity gaps and needs
       
    • Approaches to integrate capacity- building needs in NDCs 3.0
       
    • Approaches for retaining capacity
       
  •  Approaches for increasing effectiveness of capacity building activities particularly as regard to accessing and mobilizing finance

Session 3 – Support needed and provided in the context of building and retaining capacity

 

In this dialogue, support organizations will share the support available for the development and retention of capacities with a view towards the preparation of new NDCs.  The organizations will in their inputs reflect on the discussions from Session 2.

  • What support is available for capacity-building and how can countries approach support providers?
     
  • What support from your perspective, and conversations today, is needed to fill emerging capacity gaps?
     
  • How can capacity be retained and what support from your perspective, and conversations today, is needed to retain capacity both at the institutional and individual levels?
