Background

The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), in collaboration with UNITAR organized a global workshop to launch the NAPA, and to build capacity for NAPA development. The workshop was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 18 to 21 September, 2002.

Objectives of the meeting

The objectives of the meeting are:

  • To raise awareness of adaptation and its links to poverty reduction and sustainable development;

  • To develop national capacity for LDC NAPA preparation and implementation; and

  • To launch the NAPA preparation process.

The meeting achieved these objectives through a series of interactive discussions around the main issues related to capacity building for NAPA preparation, drawing from the work of the LEG and inputs provided by UNFCCC Secretariat as well as experience and insights from LDC Parties.
