Iberdrola is a global leader in renewable energy and in developing sustainable and efficient energy solutions. Iberdrola develops its activities in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement, the Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Deal in order to ensure a sustainable and secure transition within the 1.5°C scenario as well as to reach a decarbonized economy and society, while protecting biodiversity. The company has committed to net-0 emissions for all scopes before 2040 while ensuring a just transition that is positive for people and for nature. Iberdrola is implementing several initiatives and programmes supporting capacity-building actions, related to the energy and climate action sectors, in developing countries and with a special focus on vulnerable groups. Some examples are the Electrician School for women in Brazil that aims at integrating women by training them and providing career opportunities, the alliance with UNICEF to promote education and green employment for vulnerable youth or the STEM scholarships to embark young people in technical university careers in Mexico.
Youth are “drivers for change” and play a crucial role in achieving climate goals and in accelerating the energy transition. Jobs are in permanent change, and the demand of green jobs and their related skills is growing very fast. There are huge opportunities to be seized, therefore, making and turning these opportunities attractive, visible, and well understood is essential to maximise the transition’s positive impacts and the benefits for youth in terms of green employment and socio-economic inclusion. The nexus green jobs-capacities-innovation-digitalisation offers youth huge employment opportunities fully in line with the global climate goals.
