Events - Capacity building for Women negotiators in Africa

The UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centre for East and Southern Africa (RCC ESA Africa), with support from the Africa Climate Change Fund, is implementing a project to build the capacities of women and gender negotiators in its region. The project will span from February 2023 until November 2024.

The project entails, among other activities, convening a series of in-person and virtual knowledge-sharing workshops to advance the implementation of the Lima Work Programme on Gender and its Gender Action Plan at a national and regional level.

To ensure increased and more effective participation of women in climate change decision-making, especially at the international level, and enhance understanding and promote the consideration of gender issues by all negotiators, the Project will cover the RCC’s nineteen countries, and a wide scope of activities, including:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive virtual training for negotiators;
  • Organize regional exchange workshops on gender transformative climate change action;
  • Provide technical assistance for countries to develop gender-transformative national position papers and action plans;
  • Conduct analysis and publish evidence (reports) on women’s participation in climate change decision-making and impacts of gender transformative climate change action;
  • Fund women delegates to participate in climate change conferences;
  • And more...
