(In Spanish below) The UN Climate Change secretariat through its Regional Collaboration Centre for Latin America (RCC LatAm), in coordination with the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP), will host a webinar to officially launch the report on the progress of Article 6 operationalization in Latin America. This report provides an overview of the current state of countries' development of the institutional and technical frameworks needed to engage in cooperative approaches under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

The event will present key findings from the report, along with updates on the establishment of the Regional Carbon Markets Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean, a platform supported by UNEP in collaboration with UN Climate Change secretariat through its RCC LatAm and CCAP and co-financed by the European Union through the Euroclima Programme, designed to support decision-making, strengthen capacities, and foster coordination among key stakeholders on carbon markets in the region.

The webinar will also offer space for an interactive regional dialogue between government representatives and key partners, including buyer countries.

Objectives of the event:

• Launch the report (available in both English and Spanish) that presents the early findings on the progress of the operationalization of Article 6 in Latin America.

• Highlight the role of international and regional cooperation and support, including technical and financial assistance, in enhancing regional capacity for Article 6 implementation.

• Present the website for the Regional Carbon Markets Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (OMC-LAC) and next activities to promote regional collaboration on carbon market initiatives.

• Provide a space to discuss opportunities and challenges that Latin American countries face in implementing Article 6 cooperative approaches, as well as the ongoing initiatives from multilateral organizations or buyers countries that support national priorities.

• Inform on the next steps of the Report, including the integration into the Regional Carbon Markets Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean (OMC-LAC).

La secretaría de ONU Cambio Climático, a través de su Centro de Colaboración Regional para América Latina (RCC LatAm), en coordinación con el Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP), organizan un seminario web para el lanzamiento oficial del Informe sobre el Progreso de la Implementación del Artículo 6 en América Latina. Este informe ofrece una visión general del estado actual del desarrollo de los marcos institucionales y técnicos necesarios para que los países implementen enfoques de cooperación en el marco del Artículo 6 del Acuerdo de París.

El evento presentará los hallazgos clave del informe, junto con actualizaciones sobre el establecimiento del Observatorio Regional de Mercados de Carbono para América Latina y el Caribe, una plataforma apoyada por el PNUMA, en colaboración con la secretaría de ONU Cambio Climático a través del RCC LatAm y CCAP y cofinanciada por la Unión Europea a través del programa Euroclima. Esta plataforma ha sido diseñada para apoyar la toma de decisiones, fortalecer capacidades y fomentar la coordinación entre los actores clave en los mercados de carbono de la región.

El seminario web también ofrecerá espacio para un diálogo regional interactivo entre representantes gubernamentales y socios clave, incluidos países compradores.

Los objetivos de este evento son:

• Lanzar el informe (disponible en inglés y español) que presenta los primeros hallazgos sobre el progreso de la operacionalización del Artículo 6 en América Latina.

• Destacar el papel de la cooperación y el apoyo internacional y regional, incluida la asistencia técnica y financiera, para mejorar la capacidad regional para la aplicación del Artículo 6.

• Presentar el sitio web de la Plataforma Regional de Mercados de Carbono para América Latina y el Caribe (OMC-LAC) y las próximas actividades para promover la colaboración regional en iniciativas de mercados de carbono.

• Proporcionar un espacio para discutir las oportunidades y desafíos que enfrentan los países latinoamericanos en la implementación de los enfoques de cooperación del Artículo 6, así como las iniciativas en curso de organizaciones multilaterales o países compradores que apoyan las prioridades nacionales.

• Informar sobre los próximos pasos del Informe, incluyendo la integración al Observatorio Regional de Mercados de Carbono para América Latina y el Caribe (OMC-LAC).
