Background

The Asia-Pacific region plays a critical role in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement, given its significant share of global emissions and population. Countries across the region have made progress in enhancing their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), developing Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), and strengthening national climate policy frameworks.

As the focus shifts from ambition to implementation, there is an increasing need to translate climate commitments into concrete policies, investments, and sectoral transformations. Sector-specific pathways are essential to identify priority actions, enabling conditions, and financing needs aligned with low-emission and climate-resilient development.

Accelerating clean transitions will depend on mobilizing finance, strengthening enabling environments, and fostering collaboration between governments and non-Party stakeholders, including the private sector and financial institutions. This event contributes to these efforts by linking policy, finance, and implementation, while supporting key elements of the Paris Agreement architecture, including NDC implementation, the Enhanced Transparency Framework, and the Global Stocktake.

Objectives

This high-level event aims to:

  • Highlight the role of sectoral roadmaps in achieving NDC targets and advancing long-term decarbonization pathways;
  • Showcase how strengthened collaboration between governments and non-Party stakeholders can translate climate commitments into investment-ready projects;
  • Emphasize the importance of transparency and accountability mechanisms, including Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs), in tracking progress and enhancing trust.

Expected outcomes

The event is expected to:

  • Strengthen dialogue between public and private stakeholders on accelerating clean transitions across key sectors;
  • Promote the development of investment-ready project pipelines aligned with NDC targets;
  • Highlight the role of transparency frameworks in tracking progress and supporting implementation;
  • Build momentum toward increased ambition in future NDC cycles and upcoming Global Stocktake processes.

Target audience

The event will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders engaged in advancing clean transitions in the Asia-Pacific region, including:

  • Government representatives, particularly NDC focal points and sectoral ministries (energy, planning, finance);
  • Regional organizations and United Nations agencies;
  • Multilateral development banks and development partners;
  • Private sector actors, including energy companies, technology providers, and investors;
  • Financial institutions and climate finance initiatives;
  • Civil society organizations and research institutions;
  • Youth networks and innovation platforms supporting clean energy solutions.
