The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), at its thirty-seventh session, requested the secretariat to organize two technical workshops in 2013 and 2014 as part of the work programme on the revision of the guidelines for the review of biennial reports and national communications, including national inventory reviews, for developed country Parties.

The first workshop is to be held to discuss the overall approach to the review process related to biennial reports, national communications and GHG inventories, as well as the revision of the review guidelines for biennial reports and national communications. This workshop will focus on mapping information requirements contained in the biennial report and national communication reporting guidelines to identify overlapping reporting requirements and unique information in the biennial reports and national communications, which could serve, respectively, as input to a discussion on streamlining of the review process and as the starting point for a discussion for developing biennial report review guidelines.
