Background

Facilitative sharing of views is part of the International consultation and analysis (ICA) process for developing country Parties which aims to increase the transparency of mitigation actions and their effects. By providing up to date, expert-analysed information and opportunities for peer engagement, the FSV and ICA help to showcase the efforts among developing countries, building confidence that all developing countries are implementing climate actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The FSV is undertaken for each developing country after the submission and technical analysis of their biennial update reports. With the submission of the biennial update reports from non-Annex I Parties, the technical analysis of these reports is conducted by team of technical experts.

Objective and description

The FSV process serves as a foundation for the enhanced transparency framework under the Paris Agreement, which represents an important component of increasing ambition to tackle climate change by building trust and confidence that countries are taking actions.

During this ninth FSV workshop, seventeen countries – Azerbaijan, Brazil, China, Colombia, Côte d'Ivoire, El Salvador, Georgia, Indonesia, Mexico, Montenegro, Namibia, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Republic of Moldova, Singapore and South Africa-will be sharing their achievements, climate actions and experiences that contribute to the global emission reductions. Information is also shared on their needs and support received, to effectively implement these actions.  The FSV allows all Parties to the UNFCCC to ask questions to clarify their mitigation actions, and the needs and support received.
