Background
Research and practice are increasingly highlighting the need for integrated approaches that blend technical knowledge with cultural and arts-based methods. Leading initiatives often employ creative strategies, including documentaries, photography, and participatory storytelling, to integrate local knowledge, lived experiences, and diverse cultural expressions into climate action, informing policies and public discourse. For example, international projects and local coalitions, such as the TUC, are utilizing creative communication tools to engage and mobilize different actors for socially inclusive urban climate action.
The TUC project, like many other initiatives, is supported for a specific period by climate finance from developed countries, which means that its success hinges on enabling communities to take the lead and sustain their impact beyond external involvement. Ultimately, success depends on prioritizing community-driven needs and ensuring that all actors have a seat at the decision-making table. For this purpose, cross-sector collaboration and local access to global resources are essential for cultural and art-based approaches working at the intersection of climate and mindset shifts, alongside technical expertise and evidence-based climate action efforts.
This session for the Cultural Heritage and Arts Day blends storytelling, multimedia, and diverse voices to share climate concerns using the Sentipensar method. Participants gain practical strategies for integrating feeling and thinking into climate initiatives. Outcomes include capacity-building for inclusive resilience, amplified voices, and co-creation aligned with Global Mutirão’s vision of people-centered transformation.
