Context and Objective

In the framework of the UN Climate Change Dialogues 2020 (23 November to 4 December 2020), commonly referred to as Climate Dialogues, an initiative has been launched to provide opportunities for organizing special events

The main objective of this initiative is to provide an opportunity for observer constituencies, interested Parties and partner organizations of the secretariat to benefit from the audience attracted by the Climate Dialogues and to showcase activities and progress during the year on various issues in relation to the intergovernmental process under the UNFCCC. Additionally, it helps to engage with a broad range of stakeholders who are involved in this process.

Please note that due to the virtual nature of the meetings during the Climate Dialogues, only a limited number of such special events would be accommodated within the time frame of the Dialogues. The aim is to provide such space for about 50 such events spread over the two weeks of the Climate Dialogues.

Description

The special events provide an opportunity for observer constituencies, interested Parties and the secretariat with partner organizations to showcase progress and engage with other participants for sharing knowledge, expertise and experience in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Specifically, for observer constituencies, each constituency will be able to submit requests to organize 3 to 4 special events on topics which are under discussion during the Climate Dialogues. The duration of each event is expected to be one hour and must be conducted in a virtual mode similar to other events that will be held during the dialogues.

Once the requests for the events are submitted by the constituencies, partners and other stakeholders, the secretariat will carry out an assessment as applicable to ensure that the themes fit well within the scope of the Climate Dialogues and will publish the final list of the special events in the framework of the Climate Dialogues by 19 November this year. We request observer organizations to please liaise with constituency focal point(s) for more information on participating in a special event. Please note that the organizers of each event are responsible for all arrangements of the event and are free to use any platform of their choice.

A daily programme of special events will be made available on the Climate Dialogues page, with the hyperlink to direct access to the event.
