Work relevant to the provision of technical assistance

  • Grants/Funds
  • Technical assistance that supports design and implementation of projects on Loss and Damage e.g., nature-based solutions and disaster risk reduction
  • Capacity-development in nature-based solutions and disaster risk reduction
  • The Global EbA Fund provides rapid and targeted support through seed capital for innovative approaches to ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) to climate change. The Fund is structured to support catalytic initiatives to help to overcome identified barriers to design and upscaling EbA. It is expected that the Fund will address the gaps in knowledge and planning for EbA, as well as to increase access to public and private funding for catalytic adaptation interventions. With its focus on eco-DRR and nature-based solutions, EbA grants range from USD 50,000 to USD 250,000 and are either targeted to one or more countries which are eligible for official development assistance (ODA), or are projects that are global or thematic. The Fund includes 9 partnerships and prioritizes applicants that are inclusive of local communities, indigenous knowledge and gender perspectives. UNEP focuses on scaling up existing initiatives, knowledge building on EbA, increasing awareness and overcoming barriers to EbA such as governance arrangements and unlocking public and private finance. The EbA Fund deadline is August 30, 2021 and 20 proposal will be accepted.
  • The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator,  (AFCIA), funded by the Adaptation Fund (AF), is a US$ 10 million small grant aggregator programme to be implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) working in conjuntion with the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN). It aims to foster innovation in climate change adaptation in developing countries. The programme targets a broad range of potential finance recipients, including governments, non-governmental organizations, community groups, entrepreneurs, young innovators and other groups.
  • UNEP launched a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), entitled Nature-Based Solutions for Disaster and Climate Resilience with the Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR). The course aims at helping policymakers, engineers, business owners, youth, practitioners, and others keen to learn more about ways in which to contribute to strengthening nature-based solutions to reducing climate and disaster impacts.
