In the tiny Inuit village of Niaqornat in Greenland, climate change combines with lost opportunities to threaten a way of life. Al Jazeera Witness features(link is external) the story of 56 people trying to survive inside the Arctic Circle, as rising temperatures melt the ice on which they depend.

The Inuit of Nigornat are an example of how indigenous people are often among those most affected by and vulnerable to climate change. They can, however, contribute to climate action with traditional knowledge and experience of their environment. For example, Inuit seal hunters in Greenland have observed(link is external) that sea ice has thinned by up to a metre in parts of the country. Such experience plays an important role in enabling the people of Nigornat to adapt to climate change.
