“Enhancing Action Together” is a series of three roundtables focused on decarbonization of economies, the effects of climate change on vulnerable countries, financing climate programs, promoting a fair and inclusive transition, and the exchange of ideas and proposals on climate action.

Pool for graphic journalists meets at Meeting Point at Pavilion 9

(following UN protocol – contact Tim Davis/UNFCCC)

The event will be broadcast via official https://unfccc.int/cop25webcast

Roundtable 1 (16:00-16:35): Decarbonizing the economy: a joint venture

Mr. António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal

Mr. Ricardo Salles, Minister of Environment of Brazil

Ms. Ana Patricia Botín, Executive Chairman, Banco Santander

Ms. Emma Navarro, Vice-President, European Investment Bank,

Dr. Mario Molina, 1995 Chemistry Nobel Prize Laureate

Mr. Bertrand Piccard, CEO Solar Impulse

Mr. Anurag Saha Roy, Winner of Summit of Solutions, UN 2019 Youth

Science, the IPCC Special Report on the Impacts of Global Warming of 1.5°C, is clear: to keep the global increase of temperature within 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, we need to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and decarbonize the economy. This panel will allow representatives of countries that have committed to net zero by 2050 to discuss with representatives of the private sector, subnational authorities, the scientific world and the civil society feasible options to achieve this commitment. Specifically, they will discuss how further cooperation with nonstate actors can enhance the national ambition. A youth representative will also be invited to kick off the conversation by demonstrating the action that is already being achieved by the youth.

Roundtable 2 (16:35-17:05): Building a safer world

Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo

Mr. David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament

Ms. Emma Howard Boyd, Chair of the Environment Agendy of the United Kingdom and UK Commissioner to the Global Commission on Adaptation

Dr. Thelma Krug, IPCC Vicechair

Mr. Alejandro Quecedo, SEO/BirdLife

The IPCC Special Report on the Impacts of Global Warming of 1.5°C states that both urgent and transformational adaptation action is needed to reduce climaterelated risks. Yet adaptation action is not keeping pace with the scale of impacts, which are expected to be such that business as usual is no longer a sustainable option for any country, community, business or financial institution. This panel will aim at highlighting the key actions that companies, investors, subnational authorities and civil society are undertaking to increase adaptation capabilities and the options existing, including those identified in the Climate Action Summit, to accelerate their actions.

Roundtable 3 (17:05-17:45): People centred climate action

Mr. Carlos Andrés Alvarado Quesada, President of Costa Rica

Ms. Erna Solberg, Primer Minister of Norway

Ms. Kate Hampton, CIFF CEO

Tasnem Essop, Executive Director, CAN

Mr Ludovic Voet (Confederal Secretary ETUC)

For the transition towards a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions economy to succeed it needs to be fair and socially beneficial for all. Climate action needs to put people at the centre and ensure that nobody is left behind. In this context, people focused policies that address issues such as health, gender and a just transition, are key political drivers for increased climate ambition. This panel will allow hearing the voices from representatives from the civil society, academia, trade unions and the private sector on how to address these drivers
