Background
Climate change threatens biodiversity and ecosystems which people rely upon in order to adapt to the impacts of climate change and reduce (disaster) risk. But how can forests and grasslands biodiversity and ecosystems be better integrated into adaptation solutions at the national level?
As part of the Nairobi work programme (NWP) thematic area on biodiversity, experts and practitioners will discuss the value of integrating forest and grasslands ecosystems into adaptation strategies. This includes ecosystem-based adaptation and nature-based solutions.
Objectives
Panelists, including members of the NWP thematic expert group, will explore trade-offs and co-benefits. Objectives of this session include:
- Share preliminary key findings from the scoping paper, which will be published in January 2021.
- Examine challenges, lessons learned and opportunities, including co-benefits of integrating forests and grasslands into adaptation.
- Discuss how to mainstream biodiversity and ecosystem planning into national plans and policies, to realize multiple benefits.
