Abstract

The in-session workshop on the development of early warning systems and contingency plans in relation to extreme weather events and their effects such as desertification, drought, floods, landslides, storm surge, soil erosion, and saline water intrusion was held in Bonn, Germany, on 2 June 2015, during the forty-second session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice. In the presentations and discussions that took place at the workshop, Parties
highlighted the important role of early warning systems and contingency plans in relation to climate change and extreme weather events for the agriculture sector. Parties noted the importance of, inter alia, exploring the potential for synergies among existing processes under the Convention in facilitating the development and use of early warning systems and
contingency plans, and sharing knowledge and information on good practices and lessons learned relating thereto.
