Philanthropies

As the climate crisis deepens, nearly all areas prioritized by philanthropies are affected. Philanthropies globally are directing less than 2% of their support to climate change efforts. Business as usual is no longer an option. With the climate crisis not slowing down, philanthropies' role is more crucial than ever in providing expertise and funding to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Philanthropy Leadership Platform

With the Philanthropic Leadership Platform, UN Climate Change aims to engage philanthropists, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals to orchestrate collective climate action, build collaborative capacities, and mobilize resources to drive inclusive and transformative change towards a climate-positive future.

To explore the role of philanthropies in tackling climate change and how their role can be leveraged globally and regionally, UN Climate Change organized a high-level launch event at COP 27 in 2022, and more recently, an event at the MENA Regional Climate Week in 2023.

Bloomberg Philanthropies

With support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the secretariat strengthened the delivery of a range of activities across its mandates.

Wellcome Trust

With the support of the Wellcome Trust, the secretariat advanced a range of activities at the intersection of climate change, health, and human well-being.

Open Earth Foundation

With the support of Open Earth Foundation, the secretariat advanced work under the Global Innovation Hub initiative, which promotes transformative innovations for a low-emission and climate-resilient future.

Open Society Foundations

With the support of Open Society Foundations, the secretariat strengthened the technical capabilities of the Transitional Committee, enhanced accountability and transparency, supported the adaptability of the UNFCCC process and COPs, and contributed to streamlining the Global Stocktake process.

Clinton Foundation

In collaboration with the Clinton Foundation through the Clinton Global Initiative, the secretariat supported the convening of high-level events and stakeholder networks to advance climate action.

The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation

With the support of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), the secretariat contributed to establishing a long-term COP Presidency Youth Climate Champion role and advancing the UNFCCC Climate Plans Campaign.

Sequoia Climate Foundation

With the support of Sequoia Climate Foundation, the secretariat strengthened the work of the Regional Collaboration Centre for Asia and the Pacific to advance clean energy and climate-resilient development.

ClimateWorks Foundation

With the support of ClimateWorks Foundation, the secretariat advanced efforts to integrate Indigenous, local and youth-led knowledge into UNFCCC climate policy processes.

Windward Fund

With the support of Windward Fund, the secretariat strengthened methane emissions data and projections for the agriculture and waste sectors to support implementation of the Enhanced Transparency Framework.

Climate Emergency Collaboration Group

With support from the Climate Emergency Collaboration Group (CECG), the secretariat strengthened institutional capacity and advanced key initiatives to support climate implementation.
