Government of Japan provides financial contribution to UNFCCC

Bonn, 24 March 2021 – The secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) welcomes the contribution of US$909,000 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan towards crucial work in promoting mitigation action in all regions and in the work of the Technology Executive Committee on climate technology development and transfer to pursue the goals of the Paris Agreement.

This cooperation is helpful for the secretariat’s work programme in supporting Parties to collaborate in the implementation of ambitious national action to meet Paris Agreement goals, to accelerate international cooperation on climate technology development and transfer, and to implement capacity-building programmes in developing countries.

The funding will facilitate the identification of policy options and approaches for mitigation technologies including clean energy infrastructure and zero emission mobility and the promotion of exchange among relevant stakeholders.  It will also create an online repository to share information and raise awareness and support developing country stakeholders (policymakers and private sector) in accelerating the adoption of these policy options and approaches for decarbonization technologies.

“This is an important and welcome support from the Japanese government and the people of Japan during this extraordinary time, when nations need to build forward from COVID-19 and respond to the climate emergency. It is a true testament to their commitment to build a green, clean, healthy and climate-friendly future for all people. We are deeply thankful.” said Deputy Executive Secretary Ovais Sarmad.
