The Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), at its forty-second session (SBI 42, June 2015), requested the secretariat to organize a pre-sessional workshop prior to the forty-fourth session of the SBI (SBI 44, 16–26 May 2016) to advance the discussions on the revision of the UNFCCC reporting guidelines on national communications. At its forty-third session (SBI 43, December 2015), the SBI reiterated this request to the secretariat and agreed to continue its work on the revision of the UNFCCC reporting guidelines on national communications, with a view to finalizing the revised guidelines on national communications for adoption by the Conference of the Parties (COP) at its twenty-second session (COP 22, November 2016).
               
This pre-sessional workshop will discuss the revision of UNFCCC reporting guidelines on national communications, based on the revised and updated technical paper (FCCC/TP/2015/3) prepared by the secretariat. This technical paper reflects the views submitted by Parties in response to the invitations of SBI 40 and SBI 42 and the discussions by the Parties at SBI 41 and SBI 42.                   
 
The discussions at the pre-sessional workshop will be reflected in  a workshop report that will serve as input to the discussions on the revision of the UNFCCC reporting guidelines on national communications at SBI 44.
