Gold Prize for Documentary on Adaptation Needs
17 June 2015
Announcement

A documentary highlighting the need for adaptation to climate change around the world and commissioned by the UNFCCC’s Adaptation Committee has been awarded a gold prize at the prestigious Deauville Green Awards.

The 20 minute documentary “Adapting to a changing climate” introduces viewers to the topic of climate change adaptation by weaving inspiring stories of adaptation action together with interviews with experts.

Receiving the prize in Deauville last week, Andro Drecun of the UNFCCC’s Adaptation Committee said:

While we strive to limit the global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius in the international negotiations, the climate is already changing and affecting the lives of people all over the world. While this is a sad reality, it is also the opportunity to change the way we consume and produce, the opportunity to feed, clothe and put a roof over our heads in a more sustainable way. With this video documentary, we, the UNFCCC Adaptation Committee, want to show that we need to adapt to these changes, but also that adaptation is already taking place all over the world.

The awards ceremony in Deauville took place 11 June in the presence of major names in the film industry, including journalist and documentary filmmaker Jamy Gourmaud , director and Comedian Sonia Rolland  and director and documentary filmmaker Nils Tavernier.

The documentary was produced by the UN Climate Change Secretariat on behalf of the Adaptation Committee and shown for the first time at the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima last year.

The video documentary is available in English and will soon be subtitled in nine different languages (Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish).

Interested broadcasters, organizations and individuals are invited to contact the UNFCCC secretariat in order to obtain a free high quality copy via AC@unfccc.int.
