Global Youth Video Competition 2017

The third edition of the Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change shared inspiring stories of young people around the globe acting to combat climate change.

Winners:

Two-hundred and forty-seven films from 94 countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, were submitted by young people between the ages of 18 and 30.

Two young climate activists from India and Morocco, who tell their inspiring stories of climate action and the importance of conservation, have been selected as the winners of the 2017 Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change.

The winners, chosen through online public voting, are Adarsh Prathap from India for the category "Oceans and climate change” and Younes Lamsaoui from Morocco for the category “Climate friendly and resilient cities.” They will travel to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 23) in Bonn, Germany in November and will work with the UN Climate Change secretariat’s communications team in covering highlights of the meeting.

The video “Let mangroves recover” by Adarsh Prathap underlines the importance of mangroves and shows how their conservation can save thousands of lives. His video, concluding with “sometimes nature is the only answer,” sends a strong message on the significance of this ecosystem for the region for saving its vulnerable coastline.

In his 3-minute entry, Younes Lamsaoui introduces his home city and host of last year’s UN Climate Change Conference, Marrakech. The video “Turning green” highlights how the “red city” is responding to the challenges of climate change and how he is contributing to this transition. As a young primary school teacher, he is educating the next generation on how to help make their city greener and live sustainably.
