Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) is a term adopted by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to denote work under Article 6 of the Convention and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement. The overarching goal of ACE is to empower all members of society to engage in climate policy and action, through education and public awareness, training, public participation and access to information, and international cooperation on these issues.
The Glasgow work programme on ACE adopted at COP 26 acknowledges the growing interest and engagement of youth in climate action and the critical role of young people as agents of change. Parties called for further enhancement of youth participation in climate change processes and in unleashing the potential of ACE. The ACE Hub is a collaboration launched in 2022 between government of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and the UN Climate Change to increase public support to, and engagement in, climate action activities that can help accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Its activities will contribute to the implementation of the GWP, including supporting meaningful youth engagement in climate policy and action.
In the framework of the Youth4Climate Global Initiative, the UN Climate Change secretariat, with the contribution of the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Republic of Italy has set up the Youth4Capacity program to contribute to building the capacities of young people on climate change while also seeking to address the linkages between climate action and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the three Rio conventions. Youth4Capacity programme co-shaped with youth, pursues to support concrete activities aimed at strengthening the capacities of young people, particularly in vulnerable countries, and to promote the active exchange of experiences and lessons learned.
