UNFCCC-GIR-CASTT

UNFCCC-GIR-CASTT is a professional three-week intensive training programme on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories for national experts from developing countries. The programme is being offered annually in collaboration with the Greenhouse Gas inventory & Research Center of Korea (GIR) since 2017.

It aims to enhance the technical capacity and overall competency of experts from developing countries to enable them to prepare and report high-quality GHG inventories. In total, 221 trainees representing 89 developing countries have successfully completed the training programme between 2017 and 2024.

It also serves as a model for delivering a targeted professional training programme and as a South-South cooperation that responds to the training needs of developing countries in the measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) arrangements(link is external)
of the Convention and the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement

  • Reporting and review under the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement
  • GHG Inventory Compilation
  • Sectoral GHG Estimation Methodology
  • GHG Projections
  • Hands-on exercises                         

The 2025 UNFCCC–GIR-CASTT Training Programme will be held from 14 July to 1 August 2025 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The 2024 UNFCCC-GIR CASTT training programme took place from 19 August to 6 September 2024 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Training conducted in 2023:

The 2023 UNFCCC-GIR CASTT training programme took place from 10 to 28 July 2023 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
